Irvine Public Library Celebrates Grand Opening Sunday, August 3

The community is invited to celebrate the grand opening of the Irvine Public Library with ribbon cutting ceremonies at Heritage Park and University Park Library Branches Sunday, August 3. These exciting events mark a milestone in Irvine’s history and offer residents an opportunity to explore the enhanced services and updated spaces that reflect the City’s vision for a modern, community-focused library system.

Grand Opening Schedule:

  • Heritage Park Library Branch: 1–4 p.m.
  • University Park Library Branch: 2–5 p.m.

Each event will include live entertainment and a variety of family-friendly crafts and activities, including friendship bracelet making, bookmark decorating, a scavenger hunt, and more. Guests will have the opportunity to sign up for a library card, check out materials, and meet library staff who will be on hand to introduce residents to the services and programs available.

These celebrations mark the beginning of a new chapter for the City’s library services, as Irvine transitions from the Orange County Public Library to a fully independent public library system designed to meet the needs of a dynamic, growing, and diverse community. In addition to Heritage Park and University Park Library Branches, the Katie Wheeler Library Branch, which is currently closed, will be part of the Irvine Public Library when it opens in early 2026.

The Irvine Public Library empowers residents with access to an enhanced catalog of books and digital materials, expanded children’s and teen programming, upgraded technology and public computers, and community-focused spaces for learning, collaboration, and connection. These refreshed spaces feature updated carpeting, modern furnishings, and locally curated art, designed to serve as welcoming hubs where all Irvine residents can read, explore, and thrive.

Celebrate the beginning of a stronger, more inclusive library system for all of Irvine. For more information, please visit irvinepubliclibrary.org.
